Kerry Best

Red Group Key Person.

I first became associated with Drayton Daisy Chain Pre-school when my daughter attended the setting, later followed by her sister. I loved the way the setting was so welcoming and had a family feel. During this time I volunteered to become a member of the pre-school committee and acted as the secretary until 2010. Due to developing an interest in how children learn I then decided to complete my NVQ Level 3 in Children’s Care, Learning and Development. After carrying out my valuable work experience at this pre-school I then began my first position as a 1:1 practitioner for a child with special educational needs. I have thoroughly enjoyed being a member of staff at Drayton Daisy Chain pre-school working as both bank staff and as a keyperson and I am especially interested in developing children’s early Literacy and language skills through sharing books and storytelling opportunities.

Our Committee

Drayton Daisy Chain Pre-school is a parent managed committee run pre-school. This means that parents of children in the setting come together to hold joint responsibility for the management of the pre-school.

We are members of the Pre-school Learning Alliance and have adopted their ‘constitution’ – a constitution defines our legal structure and enables us to operate within the guidelines of charity law.

All committee members need to sign a confidentiality agreement in order to protect the committee and setting. Each member undertakes an enhanced disclosure barring service check (DBS) and an EY2 form.

It is an opportunity to develop social and professional skills whilst making a contribution that benefits the learning experience of children as they start out on their learning journey.

Every committee must have a Chairperson, a Treasurer and a Secretary and at least two other members.

Chairperson

The Chairperson is the public face of the elected committee, representing the setting where necessary. The Chairperson ensures that meetings are effective, that decisions are taken and implemented in a way that complies with the constitution. The Chairperson is usually the line manager.

Treasurer

The Treasurer works closely with management regarding income and expenditure – all committee members are responsible for making financial decisions, but the treasurer guides and advises the committee on approval of budgets and accounts.

Secretary

The Secretary in consultation with the Chairperson draws up and circulates the agenda before committee meetings and ensures proper records of meetings are kept.

Fundraising

As a Registered Charity, fundraising is crucial. We hold fundraising events throughout the year, this is an opportunity to support organising events and promote awareness of the pre-school’s work, goals and financial needs.
